Today, Marvel (under Disney) said that they are ending their relationship with Gazillion Entertainment, the team behind Marvel Heroes. A Marvel representative sent an e-mail to Kotaku first saying:
“We regret to inform our Marvel Heroes fans that we have ended our relationship with Gazillion Entertainment, and that the Marvel Heroes games will be shut down. We would like to sincerely thank the players who joined the Marvel Heroes community, and will provide any further updates as they become available.”
Marvel Heroes was originally released in 2013 on PC as a "Marvel Diablo". It is a free-to-play game that sold playable popular Marvel characters to play as, and costumes for those characters as well. Earlier this year, the game made its way to PS4 and Xbox One.
Fans knew something was up after Gazillion added Loki to the game because they went quiet on their social media channels. This lead to the speculation of the future of the game.
In the statement provided, it's not clear when Marvel Heroes will be shutting down.
