After releasing in September with rave reviews, Divinity: Original Sin 2 hit another huge milestone this week. Larian Studios announced alongside a meme, that their game has sold over one million units. The tweet also thanked their fans for supporting their game over the last few months.
Larian Studios has come a long way with Divinity: Original Sin, launching a Kickstarter in 2013 to then launch their game the following year. While the game was only released on PC first, would allow for them to make a second Kickstarter for the sequel.
Divinity: Original Sin 2 's Kickstarter would see double the amount of money that the first Kickstarter saw. It would launch in August 2015 and would see a September 2017 release date.
Larian Studios is doing Kickstarter games properly, releasing their games with the high seal of quality that they promise. This is something that is not seen as often. Games being funded on Kickstarter saw an uptick then promptly stopped. This trend is something that made an appearance from older developers attempting to rekindle that old fan base but would sometimes fail at doing so. Example, Yooka-Laylee and Mighty No. 9.
Props to Larian Studios for doing it right, and seeing success in doing so.
