Within a twenty-four span, PlayerUnknown: Battlegrounds has become the second most popular game on Steam. The player-count reached just over 870,00 concurrent and beat out both Dota 2 and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. This was also enough for the game to overtake CS: GO and become the second-most popular game on the platform. CS: GO peaked last year with over 850,000 players.
This peak comes after an Invitational during Gamescom 2017, in which the four-day event was streamed on Twitch. Earlier in the month, PU: BG broke 500,000 concurrent players and has gained over 350,000 players in a couple of weeks.
Dota 2 still holds the record for the highest peak players on Steam, with it reaching over 1,291,328 players back in March 2016. However, this rise is meteoric and is amazing for a mod of Arma 2 to be this popular. Alongside this, the game has sold over eight million copies and isn't fully out yet. It's only available on PC currently, and it slated for release on Xbox One later this year.
